Six fast facts about rooftop solar panel technology

Solar panels can power your house and feed excess electricity back into the grid.

What is an optimal roof for solar?

To have an optimal roof for solar, your home will need ample square footage and surface area. The roof should be newly installed, and structurally secure. If necessary, we can help you navigate rooftop replacement options as well.

Ideally, your roof will be South, West, or East facing.

South-facing roofs perform best, but this is not absolutely necessary. As long as we can avoid placing solar panels facing North, your rooftop will be an optimal fit.

We optimize mounting angles by latitude location during installation. The roof should have minimal shade caused by trees or other objects.

What happens to my rooftop solar panels at night?

The rules for these programs tend to vary state by state.

Many utility companies have net metering programs that credit you back when your system produces more electricity than you use. You can use these credits during periods of low production, such as at night, or during the winter months.

Does rooftop solar let me go fully off-grid?

Not exactly. Unfortunately, you can’t go “off-grid” in the true sense of the word.

Batteries can provide backup power during power outages, but many benefits of going solar may be outweighed by the high financial and environmental costs of a battery. We can help you evaluate your options.

Many times home batteries are an unnecessary and expensive upsell. However, in other situations, having a home battery backup system may be a good solution for your needs.

Does rooftop solar work in adverse weather conditions?

In blizzard conditions, the heat will help the snow melt quickly, and soon the system will begin to produce power again on its own.

Further, unless there’s a lot of snow up there, the sunlight will still shine through. If you live in an area with sunny weather more often than not, you’ll see consistent energy production.

We also offer solar panels designed to withstand gale-force winds during hurricanes.

How do I clean my solar panels?

The short answer is that once they’re installed, you don’t usually need to clean your solar panels.

Solar panels tend to be low maintenance, and with our best-in-class warranty, all maintenance required is automatically covered. The occasional rainy day usually takes care of the cleaning!

However, consider if you live in a hot and dry area with a lot of dust building up, such as in a desert region. You may not get much rain during dry seasons. In that case, you might consider using a pressure washer to clean your solar panels about once a year.

Five quick reasons why you should go solar in 2022

Remember to bookmark this page. There’s a lot of useful information contained within. Here are the five top reasons why people are switching to solar in 2022.

Installing solar on your roof saves you money

Electric vehicle drivers can save over $1,000 on gas costs annually by choosing rooftop solar. Installing solar panels on your roof will add $15,000 to your home’s value on average.

Rooftop solar is also one of the best home improvement investments.

On average, our customers will save $26,000 on energy costs during the next 20 years. The more we invest in protecting our environment, the more we can preserve property values. Installing rooftop solar ensures every community that invests in protecting the planet will also benefit financially.

Solar panels also lower the overall cost of electricity for everyone, not just you. The more people that choose to buy solar, the lower local electricity costs become overall!

Rooftop solar panel installation lowers carbon emissions

Residential rooftop solar can protect your local air and water quality.

The more solar we install, the less energy we need from other sources. This means your decision to switch can help prevent oil spills, as well as sea-level rise. Lower your carbon footprint and ensure a livable planet for future generations by switching to renewable solar energy.

Gain many practical benefits from buying rooftop solar panels

Installing solar panels solves problems before they happen.

You can get your home ready to charge up an electric vehicle without waiting in line. You can also ensure the energy used to power your EV is truly renewable.

If you work from home, installing rooftop solar can help lower electricity costs.

Usually, home battery backups only make sense in limited scenarios, such as if you run a home-based business and can’t afford outages, or if you have medical equipment that can’t ever be shut off.

Your home will be safer from the risk of power outages caused by climate disasters. More solar panels mean fewer climate disasters.

Buying rooftop solar is a smart choice, period

By installing rooftop solar, you can transform a former expense into an asset designed to produce wealth. This is money you’re already spending on the power bill. That power bill has only gone up in the last 20 years.

However, if you’re going to run the hot tub and burn expensive propane in the winter, you might as well choose more affordable renewable energy.

The more people that switch to solar, the more resilient overall our grid becomes. Investing in solar panels for your roof is also an investment in building and owning part of your community’s renewable energy infrastructure.

Solar panels are a great way to reduce the risks of power outages, and the dangers of climate change.

Going solar has never been more cost-effective

Over the last ten years, the price of solar has come down by almost 90%.

However, since the early 2000s, the cost of electricity has nearly doubled over time.

Inflation is driving energy costs higher every year. As a result, solar is now the most cost-effective method of electricity generation in history.

Lastly, along with the mass adoption of electric vehicles, and all the government incentives being rolled out, there’s never been a better time to switch to solar.

Four myths about buying rooftop solar panels

There’s a good amount of bad information out there. We’ll make sure you have access to good information. Here are four common solar energy myths debunked.

Myth: Solar panel system installation costs too much

You might think so, but you might also find that solar panel installation can save you tremendous amounts of money while also adding value to your home.

If you have decent credit, we can help you secure financing for your solar energy system. You’re likely already paying too much money for electricity.

We don’t know if solar panels can help you financially or not, but we would like to find out together.

Myth: The government is giving away free solar panels.

First of all, no, they aren’t. Sorry.

If you see any advertisements with this messaging, that should raise red flags. There are tax incentives that can help you offset the cost of installing solar on your roof, but not everyone qualifies. We always recommend talking to a tax advisor. Our policy is to not give tax advice.

We are solar experts and not tax experts, after all. The bottom line? No one is giving away free solar panels, period.

Myth: Solar panels are bad for the planet.

We offset all carbon emissions released during solar panel manufacturing to ensure your panels are carbon neutral and clean on day one.

Additionally, solar panel recycling technology ensures that an already sustainable source of power becomes even more sustainable over time. In order to avoid supply chain issues, we will need to recycle solar panels. So don’t worry, we’re on top of it.

Lastly, solar panel recycling technology is improving tremendously every year. Solar is going to create jobs and make a positive impact on our environment.

Myth: Solar panel installers will put holes in my roof.

Damage during solar panel installation is a very infrequent occurrence.

Sure, it may happen every now and then, but that’s why we have the best available solar warranties in the industry.

Our warranty includes coverage for rooftop penetration damage. If damage to your roof occurs during installation, we have a world-class warranty that ensures you are covered no matter what.

High output, high-efficiency solar panels

Our premium design and configuration options include high output, high-efficiency solar panels guaranteed to produce 90% of their original power after 25 years.

However, most solar panels are only warrantied for 80% in that same time period.

If you want the best solar panels money can buy, we’ve got them.

Hurricane-rated solar panels

If you live in an area increasingly vulnerable to severe hurricane weather, that’s all the more reason why you should go solar. Power outages could become more commonplace, as a result.

We offer solar panels designed to withstand powerful gale-force winds during Hurricanes.

These solar panels can also help prevent power grid outages from affecting your home during severe weather if paired with a home battery.

Two things we need from you after reading our solar buyer’s guide

We’ll start out by asking you a few questions about your roof, and where you live.

Additionally, we’ll want to know what energy increases you may be expecting. Every home’s situation is unique.

Energy usage increases can result from charging an electric vehicle, during the addition of a newborn, or from having the in-laws move back in.

Increased energy use may also result from projects like growing veggies or running a business out of the home.

Whatever your situation may be, we need to know. This way, we can design a system for you that gets you everything you need, and nothing you don’t.

Your contact information

We need to be able to contact you. So we collect your name, email, and phone number to provide you with top-notch service.

If for some reason you decide you no longer want to be contacted, just let us know. We respect and value your right to privacy.

Your power bill

We need a copy of your power bill. This way, we can design an energy-efficient rooftop solar system that will work for your home’s energy needs.

Your power bill gives us all of the usage information we need.

Some of our solar panel brands and manufacturers

Selection may vary based on availability. For our solar panel power inverters, we offer either SolarEdge or Enphase, depending on your unique needs.

Enphase

Enphase systems use a microinverter on each solar panel. This is a valuable consideration to make when deciding how vital decentralization is in the system design. However, with Enphase, there is no single point of failure that would disrupt the entire system in the way a failed central inverter would.

SolarEdge

SolarEdge’s central inverters have an optimizer on each solar panel, which ensures the system’s energy output is fully maxed out. As a result, each solar panel will produce power independently regardless. This technology also adds a boost to the solar panel system efficiency.
